SRK Sea Kayaking Courses

 

Training courses offered by Spanish Room Kayaking are certified under Paddle Canada.  These skills courses include pool sessions, classroom theory and open water experience.  Successful candidates are awarded an internationally recognized certification from Paddle Canada.

Listed below are the details on each of the sea kayak training at SRK.  They include Flatwater, Level I, Level II and Private Instruction.

Sea Kayak Level II will be available if demand permits -  Level I and Flatwater courses will be conducted throughout the 2007 paddling season

Sea Kayak Flatwater

Paddle Canada Flatwater Kayaking Program Outline

The Flatwater Kayaking course is designed to introduce the novice or inexperienced kayaker to paddling. Participants may paddle either a river kayak or a sea kayak for this course.

Prerequisites: There are no kayaking prerequisites for the Flatwater level.

Sea Kayak Level I

Paddle Canada Sea Kayaking I Program Outline

To provide the basic theory and skills for a day long sea kayaking trip in sheltered waters (non-wilderness areas).

PREREQUISITES:

Age requirement: None

Certification: Flatwater kayaking course (or equivalent in experience)

Course Length: 12 hours minimum

Sea Kayak Level II

Paddle Canada Sea Kayaking II Program Outline

To provide the theory and skills for proficient kayaking at sea in moderate conditions, including an overnight.

PREREQUISITES:

Age requirement: none

Wilderness First Aid

Certification: SK-I (or equivalent certification/experience)

Experience: At least 3, one day long, kayaking trips in different locations.

Course Length: 4 days (min. 36 hours) including 1 overnight.
This course can be held over two weekends with the second weekend covering the journey.
